WFP in Haiti: Information Booklet, February 2024

This edition of WFP's Information Booklet covers the period through February 2024. It reports that the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis for August 2023 to February 2024 found 44 percent of Haiti's population, or 4.35 million people, acutely food insecure (IPC Phase 3+), including 1.4 million in Emergency (IPC Phase 4). More than 310,000 people were internally displaced by armed-group violence, 60 percent of them in 2023 alone. WFP is implementing its new 2024-2028 Country Strategic Plan, budgeted at USD 1.5 billion and approved in late 2023, under which 50 percent of beneficiaries in the first year take part in resilience and development programs rather than emergency assistance.

In 2023 WFP supported 2 million people with 1 million hot meals, 9,000 mt of food and USD 80 million in cash-based transfers, the largest such operation for WFP in Latin America and the Caribbean, and purchased USD 8.4 million of food from smallholder farmers. Other figures reported include 615,000 households registered in the SIMAST social registry; 120,035 people reached with ASPIRE cash transfers in 2023, with the share paid digitally rising from 3 percent in May 2022 to 67 percent in December 2023; 450,279 schoolchildren fed through the school meals program, of whom 225,927 (50 percent) received home-grown, locally sourced meals across seven departments; 210,000 people supported through resilience activities, short of the 250,000 target due to funding shortfalls; and 52,825 people covered by weather-indexed micro-insurance in Grand'Anse, South, Nippes and Artibonite, with payouts triggered for 17,870 people after the last quarter of 2023. The office's 2024 goal is to reach 2.25 million people, and it needs USD 104.1 million to operate through July 2024.
