Privacy Policy

HaitiDocs is a public, read-only library of Haiti’s economic data, documents, map layers, and related public information. It is available on the web and as an app and connector inside AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude, served by the Model Context Protocol server at mcp.haitidocs.org. This policy explains what data the service does and does not handle.

Data we collect

Browsing HaitiDocs does not require an account, a login, or sign-in. Some optional features do ask for personal information.

• Your requests. When you use the app, the assistant sends the search terms or resource identifiers needed to return library content. We use these only to produce the response and do not build a profile from them.
• Technical logs. The hosting infrastructure may record standard technical request metadata, such as IP address, timestamp, and the requested path, for security, abuse prevention, and reliability. The exact retention period is part of the review described below.
• Contact and document submissions. If you use a contact or submission form, HaitiDocs receives the name, email address, message, document title, source URL, and file that you choose to provide. The submission handler sends those details by email to the site mailbox. It also uses a session cookie and short-lived rate-limit records to prevent abuse.
• Newsletter subscriptions. If you subscribe to the Haiti Daily Update, HaitiDocs stores your email address, confirmation status, confirmation token, subscription source, and relevant dates. The double opt-in process sends a confirmation email before activating the subscription.

Website analytics

Traffic measurement is Cloudflare Web Analytics, which our content delivery provider adds to each page. It records the address you visited, the page it referred you from, timing measurements, and your IP address. Third-party website analytics and session replay are disabled. HaitiDocs does not load Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity. They will remain disabled unless a documented review approves the purpose, data handling, retention, service owner, visitor controls, and public notice.

Browser storage and third-party page resources

HaitiDocs stores interface settings in your browser, including language, view, theme, dismissed notices, and map-tour state. The public map does not ask for, store, or transmit ACLED credentials. Its ACLED layer reads a prepared cache.

Public pages use system-font fallbacks and do not request typefaces from Google Fonts. Interactive charts load Plotly from a reviewed file served by HaitiDocs, so opening those charts does not contact Plotly's content delivery network. The optional Google preferred-source script is disabled.

The interactive map is the one part of the site that contacts other organizations from your browser. Opening it requests base map styles and tiles from CARTO and label fonts from the MapLibre glyph server. Selecting the satellite or topographic base layer requests tiles from Esri. Enabling the earthquake layer requests events from the United States Geological Survey. Each of those receives your IP address and the coordinates or parameters of what is being drawn. If you type a place name into the map search box, that text is sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim service to be resolved into coordinates. No other page on the site contacts a third party.

Data we do not collect

We do not collect or request payment card information, protected health information, government identifiers (such as social security or national ID numbers), passwords, API keys, or other credentials. Please do not send such information to the service.

How we use data

Request data is used solely to return the relevant Haiti public data, documents, and map layers, each with its original source attribution and a link to the original. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.

Sharing

We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising or profiling. Contact and document submissions pass through the site's hosting and email providers. Newsletter information is handled by the site's database and mail service. The browser connections listed above disclose standard request information to their respective providers. If you use HaitiDocs through an AI assistant, that assistant provider also handles the request under its own terms.

Data retention

HaitiDocs application code does not intentionally add search queries to a user profile. The site has not yet completed a verified retention schedule for hosting logs, contact mail, submitted files, rate-limit records, newsletter records, backups, and mail-provider records. Until that schedule is documented, do not send sensitive or confidential information. You may request deletion of information you submitted by contacting the address below, subject to any legal or operational requirement to retain it.

Sources and attribution

The library indexes public materials from sources such as the Institut Haïtien de Statistique et d’Informatique, the Banque de la République d’Haïti, the Ministère de l’Économie et des Finances, the World Bank, the IMF, and others. Each result carries its source, license where available, and a link to the original. HaitiDocs presents this material as a finder and forwarder and does not claim ownership of source content.

Children

HaitiDocs is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13.

Your choices and contact

You can clear HaitiDocs interface settings through your browser's site-data controls. Newsletter messages include an unsubscribe link. For an access, correction, deletion, or other privacy request, contact [email protected].

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves or as platform requirements change. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
