Terms of Service

HaitiDocs is a public, read-only library of Haiti’s economic data, official documents, map layers, World Bank projects and news. It is read on the web, and inside ChatGPT and Claude through the Model Context Protocol server at mcp.haitidocs.org. These Terms cover the web site, the connector and the Ask box.

Acceptance of these terms

By using HaitiDocs, on the web or through an AI assistant, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

The service

HaitiDocs is free and requires no account. The library is read-only: it displays public materials and computed indicators with their source attribution. A contact or submission form emails your message to the site mailbox. An email list stores the address you give it. The Ask box sends your question to a third-party model, which generates the answer. The "Report a problem" flag on document and data pages stores the report, the page it was sent from, and an email address only if you give one, which is deleted 90 days after the report is closed. The flag is an informal way to point out an error: a formal notice, a rights claim or a removal request goes by email to [email protected]. Nothing else a reader does reaches the library. The Privacy Policy sets out what the first three keep.

Sources, attribution, and third-party content

The library indexes public materials from publishers including the Institut Haïtien de Statistique et d’Informatique, the Banque de la République d’Haïti, the Ministère de l’Économie et des Finances, the World Bank and the IMF. Each result identifies its source, its rights record, and a source link when one is available.

Government and agency documents in Haiti often go offline. HaitiDocs may retain or serve a copy where its rights record permits. Holding a copy does not establish ownership, permission, or an open license. The publisher named in the catalog may not be the rights holder.

You are responsible for reviewing and complying with the license or terms of use of source material before reusing it and for providing any required attribution.

Licensing

The CC BY 4.0 grant applies only to HaitiDocs-authored explanatory text, metadata descriptions, classifications, and original design elements that HaitiDocs has authority to license. Attribute that material to HaitiDocs.

That grant does not cover source documents, third-party data, maps, photographs, logos, fonts, software libraries, or source material embedded in a HaitiDocs presentation. It also does not change the terms attached to an indicator series or map layer. Follow the item-level source, rights, attribution, and restriction information before reuse.

Each dataset carries the license of the body that produced it, and HaitiDocs cannot relicense it. Several of those licenses prohibit commercial use. Series drawn from the World Health Organization Global Health Observatory and from FAOSTAT are licensed CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 IGO, which is non-commercial and share-alike. Series drawn from the DHS Program, including the Haiti EMMUS surveys, are available for non-commercial research and analysis, require registration with the DHS Program, and carry the attribution it specifies. Every indicator page states the license of its source, and every CSV download repeats it as a rights note in the file header.

Public availability or government authorship does not by itself establish an open license.

Corrections and removal

If you published a document held here and want its record corrected, its copy replaced with a better one, or the record removed, write to [email protected]. Use the same address for a factual error in an indicator series or a misattributed source. Name the document or the series, and say what is wrong. A copy is withdrawn when its rights holder asks. A factual error is corrected no matter who reports it.

Acceptable use

You agree to use the service lawfully and not to:

• make automated requests at a rate that degrades the service for other readers, or work around its rate limits;
• misrepresent the service, its operator, or the origin of the materials it indexes;
• use the materials in a way that violates the rights or license terms of their original publishers, or any applicable law.

The JSON API and the Model Context Protocol server are the supported routes for bulk and machine access.

No warranty

The service and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. The data and documents may be incomplete, delayed, contain errors, or be superseded. An answer from the Ask box is generated by a language model and can be wrong. The sources it cites are the record. Nothing provided by HaitiDocs is professional, financial, legal, or investment advice. Verify a figure against the source cited beside it before relying on it.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of HaitiDocs will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the service or its content. Nothing in these Terms limits a right you have under mandatory consumer-protection or other law where you live.

Availability and changes to the service

The service may be changed, suspended, or discontinued at any time without notice. Specific datasets, documents, or layers may be added, updated, or removed as sources change.

Changes to these terms

These Terms may change. A material change moves the “Last updated” date above, and continued use after it constitutes acceptance.
