Preliminary Inventory of Concrete Opportunities for CDM Project Development in the Energy Sector in Haiti and Measures to Implement to Exploit this Potential. Volume 2: Evaluation of CDM project potential in Haiti
- Haiti has significant potential for CDM projects in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and fuel switching.
- Rehabilitating the Péligre hydroelectric dam could recover 170 GWh per year and reduce CO2 emissions by 126,000 tons annually.
- Cogeneration in the sugar industry using bagasse could reduce CO2 emissions by 147,000 tons per year.
- Valorizing agricultural residues for energy production could avoid 330,000 tons of net CO2 emissions per year.
- Improving energy efficiency in industries through heat recovery could reduce CO2 emissions by 80,000 tons.
This report provides a preliminary inventory of concrete opportunities for developing Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in Haiti's energy sector. Volume 2 focuses on evaluating the potential of CDM projects in Haiti. It covers various areas including renewable energy sources (hydroelectricity, bagasse cogeneration, agricultural residue valorization), energy efficiency improvements (heat recovery, cogeneration using fossil fuels, distribution loss reduction, efficient domestic appliances), and fuel switching (biofuel production, improved transportation). For each area, the report presents a technical evaluation, quantitative analysis of potential, specific barriers to implementation, and recommendations to overcome these barriers. The analysis includes potential CO2 emission reductions and financial benefits from CDM projects.
