The Haiti Seaports Handbook 2015-16
- Bulk cargo (liquid and dry) at Port-au-Prince rose from 1,737,594 metric tons in 2009-2010 to 2,344,999 metric tons in 2013-2014, while container traffic grew from 162,805 TEU to 172,561 TEU, just under 6 percent.
- The APN launched construction of a new earthquake-resistant container terminal in Port-au-Prince with a planned capacity of 800,000 TEU; phase 0 was estimated at US$70 million and the full program at about US$220 million.
- Rehabilitation and expansion of Cap-Haïtien, the second national port, was to be carried out in three phases with US$65 million from USAID.
- The APN also operates 14 cabotage ports, with rehabilitation planned at Gonaïves, Saint-Marc, Jérémie, Petit-Goâve, Miragoâne and Les Cayes.
- The private Port Lafito, 20 km north of Port-au-Prince, is described with a 12.5 meter draft and a 450 meter berth within a 400-hectare economic zone.
In the foreword, APN director general Alix Célestin says the edition is meant to introduce the APN to its institutional partners, and calls for new governance of the port sector because the APN's missions and statutes are obsolete. The introduction describes earthquake damage in 2010 (the North Pier container terminal in Port-au-Prince collapsed and the South Pier was partly destroyed) and the reconstruction program: a new earthquake-resistant container terminal in Port-au-Prince, rehabilitation of Cap-Haïtien with USAID funding, and rehabilitation of the main cabotage ports. Other chapters cover port history, the APN's organization, port security, the Maritime Association of Haiti (AMARH), SEMANAH, investment, cruise ports and the Lafito Global port and free zone.
The statistics section gives cargo and ship traffic at Port-au-Prince for fiscal years 2009-10 to 2013-14, bulk imports by product, vehicle imports, international container traffic and traffic at Cap-Haïtien. Closing sections give port details for the international ports, profiles of the principal cabotage ports and a directory. Much of the publication consists of advertisements from shipping lines, terminals and port service companies.
