The Bulletin des arrêts is the published record of the Tribunal de cassation, Haiti's court of final appeal. Each volume prints the rulings in full, each headed by the point of law decided, which makes the series usable: a reader can see how the court read a code article before reading the reasoning.
This volume is published under the direction of a sitting judge of the court, Me Lamartinière Denis, and with the express authorisation of the Department of Justice. That is a different arrangement from the private compilations by advocates that produced the 1880 and 1900 volumes, and it marks the point at which law reporting in Haiti moved from private initiative toward institutional publication.
The dated audiences run 1905 to 1907, concentrated on 1907. Commerce and the security devices, gage among them, are prominent, which is the litigation of a credit system operating without a land registry.
Contract enforcement, the execution of judgments and the settlement of property claims are the constraints every business-climate diagnostic of Haiti names, and this series is the primary record of how the highest court actually decided them.
