Pedology of the Maribaroux Plain: Master Development Scheme
- Finds the plain has generally undulating microrelief with slopes of 0 to 4 percent, flattening further and more regularly in its lower part.
- Records a significant clay content of 35 percent in only one sample, B-1, taken inside the rice-growing perimeter, with clay at or below 5 percent in every other case.
- Establishes total calcium carbonate content varying from 2 to 8 percent and active limestone from 0 to 3 percent, with about half the samples at a maximum of 8 percent total and no more than 3 percent active.
- Concludes there are no calcareous soils properly speaking in the Maribaroux plain, since calcareous soils run 10 to 50 percent calcium carbonate while normal soils sit between 0 and 5 percent.
- Written by Jean Andre Victor for SOHITRA under MARNDR as the pedological component of the plain's master development scheme.
Prepared by Jean André Victor for SOHITRA in 2012 under MARNDR's second small-scale irrigation project (PPI-II), this is the pedology report for the master development and land-use scheme of the Maribaroux plain in the Nord-Est. Its first chapter covers the evolution of Maribaroux soils, the factors of pedogenesis, descriptions of type profiles and their physical and chemical characteristics. The second classifies the plain's land and soils, including a classification of soils by their suitability for irrigation and an account of current land use. For an irrigation scheme this is the determining technical input: it establishes which land can productively be irrigated, and it is the most detailed soil survey in this collection.
