Socio-Economic Diagnosis of the Aquin and Baconnois Plains
- Records Aquin as the Sud department's second most populous commune after Les Cayes and its largest by area at 24 percent of the department's total, while being among the least densely populated alongside Tiburon.
- Sets urbanization against the national figure: 52 percent of Haiti's population is urban on IHSI 2015 data, falling to 23 percent in the Sud and to just 9 percent in Aquin.
- Records women at 48 percent of the Sud's population against 50.4 percent nationally, and 49 percent in Aquin.
- Finds women at 51 percent of the department's urban population, with rural shares nearly identical across the territories compared.
- A farm-level diagnosis by R. Saint-Dic dated March 2017, so the commune figures come with the survey that produced them.
Prepared by R. Saint-Dic in March 2017, this diagnosis covers the plains of Aquin and Baconnois in the Sud department. Its method rests on two surveys, one of farm holdings and one of agro-processors, and it reports the socio-economic context commune by commune: for Aquin, demography, the distribution of the population, the age distribution of the sample studied, and education levels for the commune and the communal sections of interest. The attention to agro-processors as a separate survey population is what distinguishes it from most commune diagnoses in this collection, which treat production and leave transformation implicit.
