The Grand Bois Private Protected Area Initiative
- Presents private protected area status as an alternative governance route for conservation.
- Links conservation to wealth creation rather than treating it as land withdrawal alone.
- Documents SAH's role in the Grand Sud environmental planning discussion.
Grand Bois matters in this archive because it shows a protected-area strategy outside the standard public-park model. SAH presents itself as a conservation foundation working to rehabilitate Haiti's environment and conserve less-degraded ecosystems, especially wildlife and birds, with an explicit wealth-creation perspective. The private protected area is therefore a governance device as much as an ecological one: it asks how conservation can be held, managed and financed where the land base is not simply a state park.
