Full Description
This is a monthly time-series table produced by Haiti's Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), with data sourced from the Banque de la Republique d'Haiti (BRH), tracking the aggregated public sector external debt stock (including payment arrears) from October 2013 to September 2014. Total external debt (equal to long-term debt in this period) rose steadily from USD 1,503.0 million in October 2013 to USD 1,826.5 million in September 2014. Bilateral creditors dominate the stock, rising from USD 1,354.6 million (90.1%) to USD 1,672.0 million (91.54%) of the total, driven almost entirely by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, whose debt grew from USD 1,263.7 million to USD 1,573.7 million over the period (accounting for roughly 84-86% of total external debt). Chine (Taipei) is the only other active bilateral creditor with a declining balance, from USD 76.8 million to USD 71.7 million.
Multilateral creditors' share fell from 9.0% to 7.49% of the total, with FIDA, FMI, BID and OPEC as the active multilateral lenders and no outstanding BIRD/IDA (World Bank) balance. Rescheduled debt (dette reamenagee), entirely owed to Chine (Taipei), rose from USD 12.4 million to USD 17.6 million, and payment arrears appear starting January 2014, reaching USD 3.7 million by September 2014 (1.0% of the total). A second table presents the same breakdown as a percentage of total external debt.
