The Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics' annual analysis of the national accounts for fiscal year 2024, issued by the Directorate of Economic Statistics in December 2024 and running to 25 pages.
GDP at constant prices is estimated at 568.0 billion gourdes against 592.7 billion the year before, a fall of 4.2 percent and the largest since the 5.7 percent fall that followed the earthquake of January 2010. It is the sixth consecutive year of contraction, an average decline of 2.3 percent a year. The institute cites the blockade of national roads 1 and 2, which serve nine of the ten departments, the temporary closure of Toussaint Louverture airport and the suspension of commercial flights in the second and third quarters, and the refusal of some deep-sea shipping lines to call at the port of Port-au-Prince.
Primary value added fell 5.7 percent to about 90.2 billion constant gourdes, with agriculture down 5.6 percent to 84.6 billion. The secondary and tertiary sectors fell to 130.8 and 304.0 billion; manufacturing fell 4.0 percent to 102.2 billion and construction 7.5 percent to 22.1 billion.
Imports of goods fell 16.2 percent. Final consumption fell 4.4 percent, gross fixed capital formation 36.3 percent and exports 31.9 percent. Remittances crossed four billion dollars, 4,111.0 million against 3,753.25 million, up 9.5 percent. Inflation eased to 25.8 percent on average and 27.9 percent year on year, against 44.1 and 31.8 percent in 2023.
