The first page is a diagram of the system with ages 10 to 18 marked and the routes into vocational and technical education, teacher training, university and employment. The second page is a table comparing Haitian years with U.S. grades. Preschool has three sections, small, medium and large, for ages 3 to 6. Fundamental education runs nine years from age 6 to 15 in three cycles, and ends with the Brevet diploma. Secondary education has four classes: Troisieme, Seconde, Premiere and Terminale, with the Baccalaureat awarded in two parts. From the second cycle of fundamental education, pupils can switch to professional and vocational education. The note states that the 1987 Constitution makes the state responsible for primary education, free and compulsory, and that private schools dominate the system, most of them for-profit, with the state limited in its ability to monitor them.
