FEWS NET's Haiti Seasonal Monitor for April 2026, dated April 29, 2026. Favorable rainfall supported agricultural activities and vegetation health continued to improve, with vegetation conditions average to above average across much of the country. Above-average rainfall since the start of the printemps season supported normal planting, and below-average rainfall was expected over the next 30 days. The forecast of a drier 30 days ahead is what the next two editions then report. The monitor reads the season under way: cumulative rainfall against the long-term mean, vegetation condition from satellite NDVI, and what both imply for planting, crop development and harvest. Haiti - Seasonal Monitor April 29, 2026 Average start of sowing season in Haiti Key Messages Figure 1 Favorable rainfall is supporting agricultural activities. Vegetation health continues to improve. Percent of mean Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, April 11 – 20, 2026. Below-average rainfall is expected over the next 30 days. Moisture conditions favor agricultural activities As shown in Figure 1, vegetation conditions are generally average to above average across much of the country, reflecting favorable moisture availability. Above-average rainfall since the beginning of the Printemps season is supporting normal crop development and benefiting irrigation systems. Soil moisture conditions are adequate, indicating sufficient groundwater availability. Despite above-average temperatures in recent weeks, evapotranspiration has not significantly affected crops; however, these conditions may favor the emergence of pests. Rainfall forecasts indicate below-average rainfall over the next 30 days. According to the SubC Multimodel Ensemble forecast (Figure 2), cumulative rainfall deficits could range between 25 and 50 mm. These conditions are not expected to negatively affect the development of the Printemps season and may help reduce the risk of localized urban flooding. Field reports indicate average levels of pests and diseases, despite rising temperatures and the high cost of pesticides and fertilizers.
