Examines labor migration among young Haitians growing up in rural areas, where opportunities for social mobility within the home community are largely closed and paid employment is found elsewhere. Drawing on the Haiti Youth Survey, it traces who migrates, where they go and on what terms, and situates the pattern against the displacement caused by the January 2010 earthquake.
