CEP/DC/069-2526: Formalities for independent candidates
- Independent candidates file the documents of article 153 of the electoral decree plus a signed letter to the CEP.
- The letter gives name, valid NINU, date and place of birth, telephone and a valid email address.
- The email address is the CEP's channel of communication with the candidate throughout the process.
Dated 9 October 2026, three days after the revised electoral decree was published, the note addresses citizens who want to register an independent candidacy. In addition to the documents listed in article 153 of the electoral decree, each must send the council a signed letter with five items: surname and given names, a valid national identification number (NINU), date and place of birth, telephone number and a valid email address. The email address is the means of communication between the CEP and the candidate for the rest of the process. The note closes with the council's standard statement on inclusive, impartial and transparent conduct of the elections.
