Economic Alternatives Study: Baradères-Corail
- The November 2024 study covers economic alternatives in the Baraderes-Corail area and is authored by Roosevelt Saint-Dic for the CECI-Viris Terra consortium.
- The survey met 202 people, including 52.3 percent men and 47.7 percent women, with 38 percent traders, 30 percent resource persons and 15 percent agricultural producers.
- The geographic distribution of respondents was 58 percent in Baraderes, 32.8 percent in Corail, 6.5 percent in Grand Boucan and 2.7 percent in the Cayemites.
- The Baraderes-Cayemites complex is reported at 1,006.086 square kilometers with an estimated population of 226,699 people.
- Crop associations are dominated by banana, cassava and yam, reported in 92 percent, 85 percent and 69 percent of cases respectively.
- Financing constraints are severe: about half of producers face difficult access to finance, formal rates can reach 60 percent per year and usury can reach 240 percent.
- Women's trading working capital totaled about 1.5 million gourdes, averaging around 20,000 gourdes, with nearly half below 15,000 gourdes.
Produced by the CECI-Viris Terra consortium and authored by Roosevelt Saint-Dic in November 2024, this report studies economic alternatives for Baradères, in the Nippes, and Corail, in the Grand'Anse. Its acknowledgements credit CECI's regional and central offices, named field contacts including agronomist Juslin Pélège and technician Monaco Saint-Preux, and a team of junior agronomists. At November 2024 it is the most recent document in the agripubhaiti batch, and it extends the run of Saint-Dic commune assessments in this collection - Maribaroux 2011, Aquin-Baconnois 2017, Belladère and Lascahobas 2020 - by another seven years. Note the file is named 'Corridor Vert' while the report's own title is Baradères-Corail, and its PDF metadata title is a leftover reading 'Etude filiere Arachide'.
