Emergency Grant Aid in Response to the Earthquake

Published title: Emergency Grant Aid in Response to the Earthquake in Haiti

US$ millions unless stated. Haitian fiscal year, October to September. FY2026-27 began October 1, 2026.

Description

Due to its geographical position, Haiti is highly exposed to frequent large-scale disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes. The country is classified amongst the most vulnerable to natural hazards in the Latin America and Caribbean region. On 14 August, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit Southern Haiti severely affected buildings and homes and damaged critical infrastructure and roads, cutting off access to some areas in the southwest. Through this intervention, IOM aims at providing critical shelter/non-food item assistance to vulnerable families having partially/completely lost their homes, through the distribution of shelter fixing kits and tarpaulins. The second component of this project focuses on shelter rehabilitation notably around structural assessment and rehabilitation of selected key infrastructures moderately damaged, combined with Build Back Safer (BBS) activities.
