Addressing the humanitarian and protection needs of displaced persons

Published title: Addressing the Humanitarian and Protection Needs of Displaced Persons in Haiti through a Multisectoral Approach

US$ millions unless stated. Haitian fiscal year, October to September. FY2026-27 began October 1, 2026.

Description

The security situation in Haiti is becoming increasingly fragile, as gangs continue to expand their reach, causing further displacement in the Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Area (MAPAP) and in some provincial towns. Of the 198,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) reported by IOM, 93% of them have been displaced by gang violence. This wave of violence perpetrated by armed groups is having a negative impact on all sectors of the country. Displaced people are not only suffering from the violation of property rights, where their homes have been looted and burned, they are also lacking basic services. Understanding the extreme vulnerability of IDPs in the MAPAP, IOM is supporting displaced populations by addressing their humanitarian and protection needs through a multi sectoral approach.

more

The project's objective is to contribute to creating safe and dignified living conditions for IDPs by gang violence in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince and mitigate the protection risks they are exposed. IOM is realising this by improving the Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI), Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) responses.
