Addressing the most urgent needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs)

Published title: Addressing the Most Urgent Needs of Vulnerable Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Affected by Ramping Gang Violence in Port-au-Prince, Haiti

US$ millions unless stated. Haitian fiscal year, October to September. FY2026-27 began October 1, 2026.

Description

The increasing violence observed in Haiti from March 2020 does not appear to be close to ending. Since 1 June 2021, an upsurge in inter-gang clashes has caused the displacement of an estimated 14,000 civilians in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince and is having a direct and indirect impact on the whole population of that area. Gender-based violence (GBV) is reported among the displaced population, with sexual abuse, including rape, among internally displaced persons (IDPs), in host families and as an offer of “sex for shelter”. In response to the United Nations call for an end to the violence and CERF’s allocation to respond to the consequences of gang activity in Haiti, the intervention aims at providing critical humanitarian assistance

to IDPs in vulnerable neighbourhoods of Port-au-Prince. In coordination with other UN agencies involved in the response, the proposed intervention will focus on camp coordination and camp management and protection sectors.
