Recovery Plan for the Laying-Hen Value Chain in Haiti
- Records Haitian egg production rising from 1 million to more than 6 million eggs a month.
- Finds the production costs prevailing in the laying-hen sub-sector did not allow a margin, which is the constraint the plan is built to address.
- Ties the cost analysis to the specific constraints it identifies in the value chain rather than treating profitability as a general problem.
- A recovery plan by Matthieu Clotteau for SYFAAH, dated December 2016.
Prepared by Matthieu Clotteau and dated December 2016, this plan addresses the laying-hen sub-sector: what the chain looks like in Haiti, how it has evolved, and what would be needed to revive it. Its analytical core is SYFAAH's evaluation of the cost price of egg production in Haiti, used to establish whether and on what terms a profitable business model is achievable - the question that determines whether domestic production can compete with imported eggs. It is a companion to the egg-sector report of 2015 and to the MARNDR animal-production sub-sector programs, and one of the more recent items in this collection.
