Escalating violence in the Ouest and the Artibonite: the RNDDH denounces the complicity of the CSPN
- Violence escalated from the start of August 2023 across Carrefour, Carrefour-Feuilles, Croix-des-Bouquets, Delmas, La Croix Périsse, Savien and Solino.
- The network holds the Conseil Supérieur de la Police Nationale responsible for systematically ignoring calls for help.
- The rights violated are guaranteed by the Haitian Constitution and by the instruments Haiti has ratified.
- The network calls on the population to organise against the gangsterisation of the state.
Since the start of August 2023 the network had recorded an unchecked escalation of violence in several areas of the Ouest and the Artibonite, among them Carrefour, Carrefour-Feuilles, Croix-des-Bouquets, Delmas, La Croix Périsse, Savien and Solino, causing many killings and gunshot wounds. The document alerts the public to that escalation and to the inertia of the Conseil Supérieur de la Police Nationale, which systematically ignores the population's calls for help.
The network sets the rights to life, to security, to physical and mental integrity and to private property against what is being done, notes that they are guaranteed by the Haitian Constitution and by the international and regional instruments Haiti has ratified, and argues that their systematic violation by those in power should lead the victims to rise and organise against the gangsterisation of the state and of the country.
