A spoken statement made on International Women's Day at the Commission's 186th session by the network's programmes director, opening on Article I of the American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man and its guarantee of the rights to life, liberty, security and integrity, and setting against it what Haiti has become for Haitian women and girls. Its asks of the Commission are that it press for the capacities of the Haitian police to be strengthened so that generalised insecurity is reduced and women and girls protected, that it bring the Haitian judiciary to investigate the mass human rights violations being committed continuously, and that illegal and arbitrary pretrial detention of women and girls be reduced. It closes by requesting an in loco visit so the Commission can see the human rights situation for itself, and the situation of people deprived of liberty in particular.
