The RNDDH's position on the serial killing of PNH officers
- At least eighteen police officers were attacked or killed in the first weeks of 2023.
- The president of the Conseil Supérieur de la Police Nationale was at the same time the country's highest executive authority.
- The network says the de facto prime minister has exposed the police to armed groups that enjoy his protection.
- It asks officers not to abandon the streets, because protecting the population remains their mission.
Only weeks into 2023 the network records at least eighteen officers of the Haitian National Police already subjected to attacks on their lives, at a moment when officers abandoned by the state appear to be the preferred target of armed groups and when the president of the Conseil Supérieur de la Police Nationale is also the country's highest executive authority. The document states a position, not an investigation. It offers the network's sympathy to the police institution, which it says the de facto prime minister has thrown to armed groups that enjoy his protection, and it says it understands the frustration and the suffering of officers. It then asks them not to hand the country in general and the streets of Port-au-Prince in particular to the armed groups waiting for exactly that, because protecting the population remains their mission.
