MSPP Statistical Report 2023
- Reports surveillance failing its own thresholds: 11 cases detected against an objective of 39, and a detection rate of 0.28 per 100,000 against a minimum expected threshold of 1 per 100,000.
- Records family planning use at 22.1 percent in 2023, after a slight fall from 2020 to 2022 and a subsequent recovery.
- Finds antenatal timeliness well short of target, with about a third of pregnant women (32.4 percent) consulting within the recommended interval against a 50.0 percent target for 2023, though six departments of ten exceed the national average.
- Records 45.2 percent of women who gave birth receiving a postnatal home visit within three days, with important disparities between departments.
- Reports the COVID-19 positivity rate at its lowest level since 2014 at 5.3 percent, concentrated at the extremes of age, children aged 0 to 4 and people aged 70 and over, with the Ouest department accounting for more than 50 percent of confirmed cases.
- Organizes everything by departmental health directorate, which is what allows a national average to be read against the department that produces it.
Produced by the Unité d'Études et de Programmation and issued in November 2024, this is the reference statistical compilation for Haiti's health sector for calendar 2023. It is organized by departmental health directorate and, in the ministry's own description, reports on the coverage of essential service delivery while assessing the burden of morbidity attached to the main pathologies and phenomena under surveillance that bear significantly on the health of the Haitian population; particular attention is paid to the availability and use of resources, including health infrastructure. The tables run from population and target groups through the epidemiological profile to access to care and service coverage, with departmental breakdowns for indicators such as the distribution of health institutions, postnatal visits by period and department, and the share of deliveries receiving a home visit within three days. For a country whose household-survey evidence base is thin and ageing, this annual compilation is one of the few current national sources on health service delivery.
