FY2025-2026 Budget: Official Launch of Its Preparation
- Budget preparation for FY2025-2026 launched May 26, 2025.
- Budget to take effect October 1, 2025.
- Stated aim: end six years of economic contraction, through six priority areas.
- One commission and five sub-commissions set up under the law of May 4, 2016.
On May 26, 2025, Finance Minister Alfred Fils Métellus officially opened the preparation of the budget for fiscal year 2025-2026 at the ministry's conference room, in front of senior ministry staff and other institutions. The budget is to take effect on October 1, 2025. The communiqué ties the exercise to the principle of annual budgets, budget discipline, more efficient spending and transparency.
The Minister described the budget as a choice for responsibility, equity and the future. Its central aim is to break with the cycle of economic contraction the country has known for six years and to start a recovery and structural transformation, organized around six priority areas that will guide the allocation of resources. The communiqué does not list the six areas.
Budget Director General Jean Michel Silin presented the strategy: a commission and five sub-commissions charged with carrying out the process set by the law of May 4, 2016 on the preparation and execution of finance laws. The ministry invited all ministries, autonomous institutions, technical and financial partners, civil society and the private sector to take part at each stage, under a tight calendar.
