This report presents the provisional results of the farm-holding survey of Haiti's General Agricultural Census (RGA, reference campaign 2008-2009) for the Artibonite department, published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) with support from the FAO and the European Union. It is the fourth in a department-by-department series drawn from an exhaustive national enumeration of 1,053,107 agricultural holdings. Of that national total, 163,588 holdings, or 15.5%, are located in the Artibonite, covering a used agricultural area (SAU) of 122,040.8 carreaux, an average of 0.75 carreaux per holding; 99% of holdings are managed directly by their operators. Holdings are largely small: 75.6% work less than 1 carreau. The report covers agricultural holdings and operators, land tenure and modes of exploitation, irrigation, land use, livestock, labor, equipment and materials, credit, extension advisory services, and constraints on holding development, with a methodological first part and detailed statistical annexes, including communal-level tables and a crop nomenclature.
