- The preliminary EMMUS-V report presents early results from Haiti's 2012 Mortality, Morbidity and Service Utilization Survey, conducted from January to June 2012.
- The survey covered households nationwide and collected data on fertility, family planning, child mortality, maternal and child health, breastfeeding, nutrition, malaria prevention, anemia and HIV.
- The sample included 13,388 selected households, 13,181 successfully interviewed households, 14,287 interviewed women aged 15-49 and 9,493 interviewed men aged 15-59.
- The report notes high household and individual response rates and includes hemoglobin and HIV testing protocols in a two-thirds household subsample.
- Early findings include 80 percent of children under five with registered births and 73 percent with a birth certificate.
- The report provides preliminary health indicators, including vaccination, child illness treatment, child nutrition, anemia, malaria-net use, HIV knowledge and child discipline, while reserving more complete analysis for the final report.
This preliminary report presents the first results of the fifth Enquête Mortalité, Morbidité et Utilization des Services, carried out in Haiti between January and June 2012 by the Institut Haïtien de l'Enfance with the collaboration of the Institut Haïtien de Statistique et d'Informatique, with USAID financing through ICF International and Canadian support. Authored by Salif Ndiaye and Mohamed Ayad. EMMUS is Haiti's instance of the Demographic and Health Survey program and is the country's principal source for fertility, child and maternal mortality, nutrition and health service use. EMMUS-V is the round conducted two years after the 2010 earthquake, which makes it the reference for post-earthquake health and demographic outcomes. The corpus previously held no EMMUS round.
