A CEP press note reporting a series of working meetings held between 11 and 23 June 2026 by a joint commission made up of three Council members and representatives of the Primature, on changes to be made to the electoral decree of 2 June 2026. The Council states what the changes concern: certain provisions relating to the independence of the electoral institution, and other elements liable to disrupt the proper conduct of the electoral process under way. Representatives of several political parties, invited by the Primature, also took part in the exchanges. In parallel, the Council reports that several working sessions were held during the week of 15 to 19 June 2026 between CEP representatives and the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the budget for electoral operations, and that it plans to hold exchange sessions with political parties and civil society on the electoral process as soon as possible. This is the negotiation that produced the amending decree of 2 July 2026, and reading the two together shows which of the Council's objections were met: that decree repealed article 14.5 and point 3 of article 14.8, both provisions bearing on the CEP board's freedom of action.
