Nou Pap Dòmi, POHDH and the RNDDH object to the creation of the Truth, Justice and Reparation Commission
- The commission was created in the Council of Ministers on 18 September 2024.
- Its mandate under Article 2 of the founding order echoes Article 20 of the political accord of 3 April 2024.
- That mandate is to furnish the justice system and the executive with what they need to act on blood crimes.
- Three organisations signed the objection, of which the RNDDH is one.
Nou Pap Dòmi, the Plateforme des Organisations Haïtiennes des Droits Humains and the RNDDH take note of the creation, in the Council of Ministers on 18 September 2024, of the Truth, Justice and Reparation Commission, and set out why they object. They quote Article 2 of the founding order, which echoes Article 20 of the political accord for a peaceful and orderly transition of 3 April 2024 and gives the commission a mandate to furnish the justice system and the executive with what they need to act and to shed light on blood crimes. The note is short and its purpose is to place that mandate, and the way the commission was created, on the record before it begins work.
