Inventory of Gabion Check Structures at Camp-Perrin (PMDN II)
- Inventories the gabion check structures built in 2017 and 2018 in the Ravine du Sud and Cavaillon basins one by one, with projected coordinates, construction year, computed sediment volume corrected by a stated 0.15 error margin, the agricultural area created behind each, and a field note on its condition.
- Shows the outcome varies structure by structure rather than site by site: computed sediment ranges from 0 to about 60 cubic meters and created agricultural area from 0 to 450 square meters, with several structures recording zero on both counts.
- Finds the Cavaillon dry-zone structures consistently empty, a run of them stable but with no sediment, no created area and no agricultural activity nearby, in ravines also treated with dry-stone check dams.
- Records that where an area was created it is generally put to use, most often elephant grass, banana, taro, yam or maize, and that the structures with a permanent water point are the ones carrying banana and maize.
- Notes at least one structure completely filled with sediment, gravel and sand, which is the intended function reaching its limit rather than a failure.
- Provides the per-structure evidence behind the program's own conclusion elsewhere that most of these works retained neither sediment nor water, which is what makes an inventory of this kind worth keeping.
This eleven-page inventory records the gabion check structures (seuils en gabion) built under the second Natural Disaster Mitigation Programme in the commune of Camp-Perrin, in the Ravine du Sud watershed. It is a data table rather than a narrative report: each structure carries an identifier, projected coordinates, year of construction, calculated sediment volume with a stated 0.15 error margin, an estimate of the agricultural surface created behind it, and a field comment on its condition and use - one entry, for instance, notes a stable structure with no water point, weakly used for banana. Its value is as primary measurement: it is the physical evidence base for claims about what these structures retain, and it complements the four-region impact evaluation of the same program also held here.
