National List of Health Institutions
- Lists the country's health institutions one by one with the fields that make the list usable: institution code, department, arrondissement, commune, communal section, category and ownership status.
- Uses a structured institution code, so a facility in this list can be matched to the ministry's other systems rather than by name alone, and the same code recurs across the annexes.
- Classifies by category, hospital, university hospital, community reference hospital, health centre with beds, health centre without beds and dispensary, which is the distinction that determines what a facility can actually treat.
- Records ownership in three classes, public, private for-profit and private not-for-profit, so the public and private shares of provision can be counted rather than estimated.
- Names the facilities it lists, including the OFATMA hospital, Hôpital Grace Children, Hôpital Isaïe Jeanty, the Petite Place Cazeau health centre and the Saint Paul health centre, which is what a register is for.
- Is the April 2015 edition compiled by the ministry's Unit for Studies and Programming, and reads as the baseline against which later facility counts, including the 1,048 in the 2020 COVID-19 safeguards framework, can be compared.
Compiled by the Unité d'Études et de Programmation of the Ministry of Public Health and Population, the list counts 1,048 health institutions across the country in March 2015, using the 2013 EPSSS survey and departmental health reports. Each institution has a code of at least six digits. Ouest holds 36.55 percent of them, Artibonite 13.17 percent and Nord 10.11 percent, and more than 8 percent are not functional, mainly in Centre, Artibonite and Nord. The text profiles each of the ten departments, for example 53 institutions in Grand-Anse, all functioning, 42 in Nord-Est and 60 in Sud-Est, and lists communal sections with no health institution. Annex I gives the detailed list by department, with non-functional, rehabilitated and newly built facilities marked, and Annex II lists institutions by department, status and category.
