The Grand'Anse departmental health directorate and its epidemiology, laboratory and research service publish this bulletin from the departmental surveillance network. This issue covers epidemiological week 28 of 2017, 9 to 15 July, with 50 reporting sites and a projected departmental population of 486,652. Completeness reached 88%, against 95% in the same week of 2016 when 44 sites were enrolled. Nine of the twelve communes returned every expected report. Jérémie sent 10 of 13, Pestel 7 of 9 and Les Irois 1 of 2. Case tables give both the cumulative count for weeks 1 to 27 and the count for week 28. Confirmed malaria stood at 214 cases in the week from 601 tested, against 4,117 confirmed from 14,632 tested since the start of the year. Acute respiratory infection was 334 in the week and 9,147 cumulative, suspected typhoid 80 and 1,792, other fevers under investigation 104 and 2,278, acute watery diarrhoea 48 and 1,390, acute bloody diarrhoea 15 and 1,157, malnutrition 47 and 1,165, hypertension 68 and 3,559. Confirmed tuberculosis was 16 in the week, confirmed HIV 5, suspected Zika 8. No suspected cholera case was reported in week 28, against 162 since the start of the year. New cases seen with other conditions numbered 1,014, bringing the weekly total across all categories to 2,623. Weekly time series run from week 1 to week 28 for acute respiratory infection, suspected typhoid, other fevers, confirmed malaria, suspected Zika, bacterial meningitis, probable diphtheria, tetanus, collective food poisoning and unusual events. A follow-up slide tracks one probable diphtheria case investigated in week 23 at Hôpital Saint-Antoine de Jérémie, with the national public health laboratory result still pending.
