NECTAR Project: Teacher's Guide
- Dated August 2021, the teacher-facing counterpart to the July 2021 Guide for Education Officers already in the corpus.
- Written for the pilot in 20 test schools implementing the reworked third-cycle programmes.
- Covers the competency-based approach, subject-specific teaching guidance (Creole and other disciplines), diagnostic/formative evaluation and classroom preparation.
- 161 pages, with a glossary and seven annexes (logbook, student tracking, active-learning methods, teamwork, class preparation).
The practical guide written in August 2021 for the teachers piloting the NECTAR experiment, the field-facing counterpart to the Guide for Education Officers of the same project and month, already held as menfp-nectar-2021-guide-des-cadres. It opens by situating the experimentation among the documents that frame it: the Cadre d'orientation curriculaire, the experimentation protocol, the draft programmes and example teaching sequences, and states what is expected of a participating teacher.
It then works through the pedagogical change at the third cycle of fundamental school (7th to 9th grade): the move to a student-centred, competency-based approach, the reasoning for it against the reform history since the 1980s Bernard reform, and the ten disciplines it spans. A discipline-by-discipline section works through subject-specific teaching guidance, illustrated at length for Creole (text typology, learning units, socio-cultural and communicative competencies).
The guide closes with evaluation practice (diagnostic and formative), a glossary of the curriculum vocabulary, and seven annexes giving teachers concrete tools: the teacher's logbook, student tracking, the pedagogical change itself, methods for keeping students active, evaluation, teamwork, and class preparation.
