On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, Finance Minister Michel Patrick Boisvert and Stefano Gatto, the European Union's Ambassador to Haiti, signed a financing agreement of EUR 18 million for the program Education for Living Together (Edikasyon pou Viv Ansanm), in the presence of Education Minister Nesmy Manigat. The communiqué says the program is meant to make education a lever of social cohesion and to help plan the education system's resources. It includes building more than a hundred classrooms resilient to natural disasters, and more than 300,000 pupils are to benefit.
Ambassador Gatto and Minister Manigat are quoted on the partnership and on helping young people gain qualifications for employment, and Minister Manigat adds that the agreement should improve access, quality and administrative governance in education. Minister Boisvert said the program is part of the government's efforts to improve social and community resilience, in the areas hit by the earthquake of August 14, 2021, by making schools more resilient to climate shocks and helping young people gain technical and vocational skills for work and entrepreneurship.
