Full Description

The Gang Suppression Force (GSF) says it carried out security operations on October 5 in Tabarre and on October 6 in Cité Soleil, in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area. The release states that the operations led to the apprehension of suspected gang members, casualties among suspected gang members, the seizure of weapons and equipment, and the removal of barricades that restricted freedom of movement.

On October 5, hundreds of GSF personnel, supported by armored vehicles and helicopters, worked through Tabarre, including narrow passageways and abandoned structures suspected of serving as hideouts. They removed numerous barricades and seized homemade explosive devices, and the release says suspected gang members withdrew after engagements. On October 6, acting on earlier intelligence, GSF personnel ran a search-and-clear operation along Route Soleil 9, which the release calls an important corridor for access to infrastructure and surrounding communities. Two suspected gang members were apprehended, two were killed and several others were critically wounded. The Force seized three firearms, magazines and ammunition, a radio, two motorcycles and other equipment. It says it will keep an enhanced presence and continue targeted operations and patrols. The release gives no figures on civilian casualties.

- PRESS RELEASE GANG SUPPRESSION FORCE CONDUCTED TARGETED SECURITY OPERATIONS IN TABARRE AND CITÉ SOLEIL PORT-AU-PRINCE, 6 October 2026 – The Gang Suppression Force (GSF) conducted security operations on 5 and 6 October in Tabarre and Cité Soleil, respectively, in the Portau-Prince metropolitan area. The operations resulted in the apprehension of suspected gang members, casualties among suspected gang members, the seizure of weapons and equipment, and the removal of barricades restricting freedom of movement and affecting public security. On 5 October, hundreds of GSF personnel, supported by armored vehicles and helicopters, conducted a security operation in Tabarre. Personnel extended operations into areas inaccessible to armored vehicles, including narrow passageways and abandoned structures suspected of being used as gang hideouts. During the operation, GSF personnel removed numerous barricades and seized homemade explosive devices. Following engagements with GSF personnel, suspected gang members withdrew from the area. The Tabarre operation expanded the GSF's presence in the area and disrupted gangs' ability to move freely and establish defensive positions. In the early hours of 6 October, acting on previously gathered intelligence, GSF personnel conducted a targeted search-and-clear operation along Route Soleil 9. The operation aimed to clear gang-held positions, remove barricades, disrupt gang activity, and reduce gangs' operational capacity in the area. During the operation, GSF personnel engaged suspected gang members. Two were apprehended, two killed, and several others were critically wounded. The GSF also seized three firearms, magazines and ammunition, a radio, two motorcycles, and other equipment. Route Soleil 9 is an important corridor for access to key infrastructure and surrounding communities. Following the operations in Tabarre and Cité Soleil, the GSF will maintain an enhanced security presence and continue targeted operations and patrols to consolidate security gains, deter renewed gang activity, and support freedom of movement for affected communities.
