Law on Combating Trafficking in Persons

Legislative Body of Haiti • 2014-06 • 25 pages
Summary: Haiti's anti-trafficking law, No. CL/2014-0010, published in Le Moniteur No. 103 of 2 June 2014. It defines the offence of trafficking in persons, sets penalties, and provides for the protection of victims.
Full Description

This law establishes trafficking in persons as an offence in Haitian law and sets the framework for prosecuting it and for protecting victims. It matters particularly in the Haitian context because of the scale of internal exploitation - including the domestic servitude of children known as restavèk - and of cross-border movement to the Dominican Republic and beyond, both of which had been the subject of sustained international scrutiny before the law was passed. The statute number, CL/2014-0010, follows the Corps Législatif numbering convention. The corpus already holds the arrêté appointing the members of the national committee to combat trafficking in persons, recovered in the same batch; this is the enabling law behind that committee. Published in Le Moniteur, 169th year, No. 103, Monday 2 June 2014.
