The electoral decree published on 2 June 2026 was one of the main points discussed. The talks also bore on the arrangements needed to organize free, inclusive, transparent and credible elections in keeping with democratic requirements and the aspirations of the Haitian people. The CEP and the head of government agreed to continue this framework of consultation in order to strengthen the coordination mechanisms bearing on the advance of the electoral process. The Council reaffirms its determination to carry out its constitutional mission independently, respecting democratic principles and the higher interest of the nation. The meeting comes five days after the Council publicly objected to the decree as unconstitutional, and it opens the sequence that led to the joint CEP-Primature commission of 11 to 23 June and to the amending decree of 2 July 2026.
