Monthly Inflation Note, April 2024
Summary: The Bank of the Republic of Haiti's monthly note on inflation for April 2024. It reads the consumer price index published by IHSI and adds the central bank's own analysis: headline inflation month on month and year on year, movement in the main consumption functions, inflation broken down by whether goods are imported or locally produced and by region of the country, core inflation, the factors the bank holds responsible for the month's movement, and its inflation forecast.
Key Findings
- Monthly inflation slowed by 2.9 percentage points to 1.8 percent in April 2024, while annual inflation rose to 27.3 percent.
- Cumulative monthly inflation in the first seven months of FY2023-2024 reached 20.7 percent, below 25.1 percent one year earlier.
- Every consumption division slowed month on month, led by food, alcoholic beverages, clothing, restaurants and leisure.
- Food and housing together contributed 81.62 percent of monthly inflation and 85.22 percent of annual inflation.
- BRH attributed the slowdown to easing port, airport and fuel shocks, a timid resumption of activity and gourde appreciation.
