Monthly Inflation Note, June 2021
Summary: The Bank of the Republic of Haiti's monthly note on inflation for June 2021. It reads the consumer price index published by IHSI and adds the central bank's own analysis: headline inflation month on month and year on year, movement in the main consumption functions, inflation broken down by whether goods are imported or locally produced and by region of the country, core inflation, the factors the bank holds responsible for the month's movement, and its inflation forecast.
Key Findings
- Monthly inflation rose to 1.2 percent in June 2021 from 1 percent in May, while annual inflation slowed by 1.9 percentage points to 12.6 percent.
- Cumulative monthly inflation over the first nine months of FY2020-2021 was 6.8 percent, compared with 17.6 percent one fiscal year earlier.
- Most consumption functions recorded faster monthly growth, while housing utilities slowed and education was unchanged.
- Imported-product inflation slowed to 14.2 percent and local-product inflation fell to 11.8 percent.
- BRH linked the monthly increase to gourde depreciation, higher FAO food prices, monetary financing and currency in circulation.
