Monthly Inflation Note, February 2021
Summary: The Bank of the Republic of Haiti's monthly note on inflation for February 2021. It reads the consumer price index published by IHSI and adds the central bank's own analysis: headline inflation month on month and year on year, movement in the main consumption functions, inflation broken down by whether goods are imported or locally produced and by region of the country, core inflation, the factors the bank holds responsible for the month's movement, and its inflation forecast.
Key Findings
- Inflation eased in February 2021, reaching 1.1 percent monthly and 17.9 percent annually.
- Annual inflation decelerated from 18.70 percent in January to 17.9 percent in February, while cumulative monthly inflation from October 2020 to February 2021 was 2.6 percent against 8.6 percent one year earlier.
- Imported-product inflation remained higher than local-product inflation, although both declined.
- Core inflation slowed to 18.82 percent annually and 1.07 percent monthly.
- BRH linked the weaker monthly inflation rate to reduced household purchasing power amid socio-political and security problems, weak harvests and lower private transfers.
