Monthly Inflation Note, February 2017
Summary: The Bank of the Republic of Haiti's monthly note on inflation for February 2017. It reads the consumer price index published by IHSI and adds the central bank's own analysis: headline inflation month on month and year on year, movement in the main consumption functions, inflation broken down by whether goods are imported or locally produced and by region of the country, core inflation, the factors the bank holds responsible for the month's movement, and its inflation forecast.
Key Findings
- The consumer price index reached 294.7 in February 2017, up from 291.6 in January 2017 and 258.7 in February 2016.
- Monthly inflation rose to 1.1 percent, while annual inflation eased to 13.9 percent from 14.1 percent in January.
- Food, beverages and tobacco rose 1.2 percent month-on-month and contributed 55.09 percent to monthly inflation, while rent, energy and water rose 2.1 percent month-on-month.
- Imported-product inflation slowed to 12.7 percent year-on-year, while local-product inflation slowed to 14.5 percent year-on-year.
- The South region still had the highest annual inflation at 16 percent, linked in the note to price distortions after Hurricane Matthew.
