Monthly Inflation Note, March 2016
Summary: The Bank of the Republic of Haiti's monthly note on inflation for March 2016. It reads the consumer price index published by IHSI and adds the central bank's own analysis: headline inflation month on month and year on year, movement in the main consumption functions, inflation broken down by whether goods are imported or locally produced and by region of the country, core inflation, the factors the bank holds responsible for the month's movement, and its inflation forecast.
Key Findings
- The March 2016 BRH inflation note says annual inflation pressure intensified while monthly inflation slowed.
- Annual CPI inflation reached 14.8 percent in March 2016, up from 14.4 percent in February, while monthly inflation fell to 0.9 percent.
- Cumulative monthly inflation for the first half of FY2016 was more than twice the comparable FY2015 figure.
- Food, beverages and tobacco remained the dominant contributor to both monthly and annual inflation because of its large consumption-basket weight.
- Imported-product monthly inflation slowed, but imported-product annual inflation rose, and local-product annual inflation also increased.
- Core inflation fell month to month but rose year on year, while headline inflation remained above core inflation for a ninth consecutive month.
