Description
(Haiti): USAID continues to assist the Government of Haiti (GOH) in improving children's reading and writing skills with evidence-based Haitian Creole and French instructional programs for grades one through four. Major activities include the development and implementation of reading and writing curricula, training and coaching teachers on appropriate instructional methods, provision of classroom libraries, assessment of student reading and writing abilities, and year-round reading programs to improve student retention and academic performance. Communication activities will increase public awareness of the importance of reading and writing. The expected results are strengthened government capacity to implement evidence-based approaches, improved learning outcomes, and the integration of this program into the national curriculum with the long-term objective of improved foundational skills to prepare Haitians for greater economic self-sufficiency.
