Strengthening access to decent housing and non-food items

Published title: Strengthening access to decent housing and non-food items for displaced populations in Artibonite and Central, Haiti

US$ millions unless stated. Haitian fiscal year, October to September. FY2026-27 began October 1, 2026.

Description

Since March 2025, escalating armed violence in the Central and Artibonite departments, outside the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, has triggered a major humanitarian crisis. Attacks targeting key infrastructure, including the prison and police station in Mirebalais, have caused mass displacement, the closure of the Mirebalais University Hospital, the only local referral centre, and the emergence of spontaneous sites for internally displaced persons, an unprecedented situation in the Centre department. At the same time, the Artibonite region is experiencing a rapid deterioration in security, with clashes between armed groups and self-defense militias hindering access to basic social services and exacerbating food insecurity. The proposed project aims to improve living conditions and preserve the dignity of those affected through these key areas of

intervention: Camp Coordination and Camp Management, and Shelter and Non-food Item distribution.
