US$ millions unless stated. Haitian fiscal year, October to September. FY2026-27 began October 1, 2026.

Description

Act Church of Sweden is Church of Sweden's international department for aid and development cooperation. It strives, in close collaboration with faith- and human-rights-based civil society actors, to strengthen people’s empowerment and their local and global organizing. Rights-holders should have the democratic space necessary for dialogue with duty-bearers. The work prioritizes support for vulnerable groups such as religious minorities, and includes interreligious cooperation with a focus on peacebuilding and social cohesion. The program also operates at the intersection between humanitarian aid and long-term development cooperation, with a focus on strengthening the resilience of vulnerable people and local communities. Through a regional program approach, cooperation and learning across national borders are promoted, increasing the effectiveness of interventions and strengthening local civil

society actors in managing the effects of conflicts, disasters, and climate-related crises. The Church of Sweden has a particular role as a faith-based actor working in conservative contexts, where it can influence norms and beliefs in environments to which many other organizations do not have access. Through theological education, it addresses issues such as gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and environmental concerns. The work is grounded in its identity as a church. In a world where many people identify as religious, faith-based actors play a crucial role in sustainable development. Owing to the trust often placed in formal and informal religious leaders, they can influence attitudes and behaviours in society. The Church of Sweden also emphasizes the local and global importance of civil society for justice and democracy, and therefore works for a pluralistic civil society with strengthened capacity and expanded democratic space for action.
