US$ millions unless stated. Haitian fiscal year, October to September. FY2026-27 began October 1, 2026.
Description
The Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030) is a globally agreed framework for work with disaster risk reduction. The Framework has been adopted by the member states of the United Nations and approved by the General Assembly. The purpose of the Framework, intended to be implemented during the 2015-2030 period, is to coordinate global efforts on disaster risk reduction and to support countries and communities in developing and strengthening planning and implementation of disaster risk reduction activities. The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has been given the mandate to implement the Sendai Framework and leads these global efforts. Sida's support to UNDRR is flexible programme support for the period 2021-2025. The intention with this contribution is

therefore to support UNDRR’s global work with disaster risk reduction. The support amounts to a maximum of 175 000 000 SEK evenly distributed over the 2021-2025 period. It shall for the year 2021 support UNDRR’s Strategic Framework 2016-2021 with its associated 2020-2021 Work Programme and Budget. For the 2022-2025 period the contribution shall support UNDRR’s Strategic Framework 2022-2025 with its associated 2022-2023 Work Programme and Budget and future 2024-2025 Work Programme and Budget. Two agreement amendments were made in December 2023 and November 2024 for an additional SEK 80 million to directly support of the UN flagship initiative Early Warning Systems for All (EW4All), which is implemented in cooperation with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), the ITU (International Telecommunication Union), IFRC (International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies). Sida's support to the initiative amounts to 80 million for implementation between December 2023 and December 2025. With the additional financial support to EW4All Sida's total support amounts to SEK 255 million for the years 2021-2025. The support to EW4All consists of global and targeted components at country level in five countries; Mozambique, Liberia, Somalia, Haiti and Bangladesh. The countries were selected based on a number of criteria and in dialogue between UNDRR and Sida. UNDRR’s work, which Sida will support, is divided into four areas: 1. Support to countries in using data and analysis to reduce risks and make risk-informed decisions; 2. Support to decisionmakers for disaster risk reduction activities at global, regional, national and local level; 3. Promote investments and undertaking of disaster risk reduction activities through partnerships and cooperation with a wide range of partners and actors; 4. Mobilising national governments and other stakeholders, through encouragement and through sharing of knowledge, in order to integrate disaster risk reduction as a key component of sustainable development. Overall the contribution is expected to result in reduced economic losses and reduced number of people affected by disasters, by having countries and communities reducing risks and strengthened capacity to manage disasters.
