Haiti response to Matthew Hurricane
US$ millions unless stated. Haitian fiscal year, October to September. FY2026-27 began October 1, 2026.
Description
ICCO and Kerk in Actie had a long history of presence in Haiti before closing the final program in 2015. The devastating hurricane that struck the country in October caused the members of the ACT Alliance to react immediately. Members present in the country were prepared and were quick in delivering aid: tents, food, hygiene kits and non-food items (such as materials to repair damaged houses). A preliminary appeal was launched within days of the hurricane's passing. Because of our long history with Haiti, and because the impact of the 2010 earthquake has not yet been forgotten by our Dutch constituency, we decided to support the ACT appeal. A first donation of 50.000 was made, rapidly followed by a second

contribution of 50.000 donated by EO Metterdaad. The individual members of the ACT Haiti Forum are all well-known because of our collaboration in the aftermath of the earthquake. Although we would have preferred not to earmark our contribution, the EO Metterdaad back donor funds ask for clear and quick plans and results. therefore we selected three partners: 1) Christian Aid/KORAL because they concentrate their interventions in the most affected area: the Sud department: Les Cayes and Chantal; 2) LWF because of our collaboration in the past and present; 3) SSID, as EO Metterdaad contributed to SSID in 2014 and broadcasted this on television, and because SSID is one of the few ACT members that included WASH activities, which is preferred by EO Metterdaad. ACT Haiti Forum members are currently (= November 3, 2016) working on the formal appeal, which will replace the preliminary one. More information will become available once we have received this document.
