Haiti ACJR 2025

US$ millions unless stated. Haitian fiscal year, October to September. FY2026-27 began October 1, 2026.

Description

Hurricane Melissa has dramatically worsened Haiti’s already complex humanitarian crisis, with Grand’Anse among the departments most severely affected. Between the 23rd -29th October, torrential rains, flooding, and landslides have devastated the area. Grand’Anse has suffered widespread destruction and significant losses to agriculture, infrastructure, and livelihoods. Its capital, Jérémie, is one of the most affected communes in the country, with 2,890 HH displaced housed in schools and churches, equivalent to approximately 22,542 people (ACTED RNA Oct 2025). Pre-crisis levels of food insecurity were already among the highest in the country; 94% of households reported insufficient food consumption. Post-disaster assessments indicate a further deterioration, with up to 75% of families now eating one meal or less, and crop losses estimated at up

to 90% of local production. As of June 2025, nearly 1.3 million people were internally displaced, the highest figure ever recorded in Haiti. While Hurricane Melissa itself has caused acute needs in Grand’Anse in particular in FSL, Shelter and WASH, Haiti's ongoing crisis remains very much a protection crisis.
