Protection, water, hygiene and sanitation support for crises, CLWR 2024

Published title: Haiti and Colombia crises- protection, water, hygiene and sanitation support – CLWR 2024

US$ millions unless stated. Haitian fiscal year, October to September. FY2026-27 began October 1, 2026.

Description

October 2024 – Haiti and Colombia continue to experience deteriorating humanitarian conditions, with high levels of needs cutting across all regions and sectors. Estimates reveal that about 8.3 million people face humanitarian needs in Colombia in 2024 due to the impacts of ongoing conflict, displacement, food insecurity and climate-induced disasters. Haiti remains impacted by decades of political, social and economic challenges, exacerbated by natural disasters and gang violence. As a result, an estimated 5.5 million people need humanitarian assistance. With GAC’s support, Canadian Lutheran World Relief supports access to gender-responsive protection and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) response services in crisis-affected communities, focusing on women and girls. It also aims to improve communities’ water, sanitation and hygiene services, and hygiene

and sanitation practices. Project activities include: (1) establishing and supporting women and girls’ safe spaces; (2) developing community-level awareness-raising campaigns concerning women’s rights, SGBV reporting, and service referral mechanisms; and (3) rehabilitating water sources.
