Localization the new urban agenga

Published title: Localization the new urban agenga in Haiti

US$ millions unless stated. Haitian fiscal year, October to September. FY2026-27 began October 1, 2026.

Description

Over the past twenty-five years, Haiti has faced significant demographic and territorial changes that have increased its vulnerability and widened inequalities among its population and territories. Rapid urban transition, exponential and uncontrolled growth of cities in a context of exposure to climate and natural risks, are some of the factors that pose major challenges for public decision-makers in terms of urban and territorial planning and management. The cross-cutting nature of these issues reveal the many significant flaws that persist in the governance strategies and mechanisms on these matters and highlight the need to adopt a public urban policy, a shared strategic, institutional, and operational framework that will make it possible to provide coordinated and adapted responses to the challenges of

the territory. This mission has been placed at the center of the strategic actions of the Government of the Republic of Haiti in this area over the past decade. To carry out this mission and respond adequately to its challenges, the Government of Haiti, represented by the CIAT, requested the technical support and the international expertise of UN-Habitat in order to ensure the process is aligned with the guiding principles of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) from the start. Our approach will aim, first and foremost, to support the Haitian public authorities in the development of a plan for the implementation of the NUA in Haiti, by providing them with technical inputs for the elaboration of a strategy intended to achieve the goals of urban sustainability. Additionally, it will seek to give the project partners and key players in urban and territorial management and planning with the tools, methods, and capacities necessary for its medium and long-term implementation. The main Expected Accomplishments are: ● Expected Global Accomplishment. Reduced social inequality and poverty in Haiti. ● Expected Accomplishments o EA1. Enhanced implementation of the New Urban Agenda in Haiti. o EA2. Haitian officers better prepared to develop their future National Urban Policy, aligned to global agendas
